Safety Impacts:

The safety aspect must also be considered along this route. The development will be bisected by the busy A1107, a historic coastal and major tourist route, described as “the road to tranquillity”. It has been described as “scenic and wild”, a status which will be lost and is a key attraction for visitors to the area. The fact that the road has 14 turbines on the west side and 8 turbines on the east side of the road will significantly increase the risk “driver distraction” (contravening Policy I20) which is already a notorious accident hot spot. With the turbines being so close to the A1107 (mast 12 – 105m, mast 13 – 90m and mast 19 <90m from the Howpark road), the potential risk of “shadow flicker” affecting drivers along that stretch of road is significantly increased (also contravening Policy I20).
